My clutch safety switch is troublesome. I attempted to bypass it, but every wire combination I tried left me with a constantly glowing neutral indicator. Funny part is, after all the trouble/ time spent trying to bypass it...I finally spent 5 minutes just opening the switch and cleaning the contact. lol. Jan 09, 2008 · i have a 99 , 4900 with a dt466e that will not start. will not crank, you cannot pull start it. i can ground the crank relay and engine will crank with key but wont start. it has a manual trans. i am not sure if the clutch switch could cause this, i am not sure how to test it. is there a common problem with these trucks for this concern.
The dead man switch on the seat seems to be working properly in that it will allow the engine to crank with it released (open), but will not allow it to run. If depressed it will crank and run. This makes no sense to me. It's as if somehow the blade drive and clutch switch are acting as starter safety switches and as dead man switches.

Now I can't get my car started using the clutch anymore and if I bypass the clutch safety switch then the battery won't stay charged because the alternator isn't getting 12V. This lets you start the car in neutral without touching the clutch, taking all that load off the thrust bearing. We used to recommend doing some wiring to bypass the switch. Bill Bowser had a better idea. His little clip makes the job easy. Instead of messing around with wiring, it simply slips over the switch and holds it closed all the time.

In the course of this thread identified (with SteveTLS input) that when the ECM sees the Start and Clutch signals together, it starts the pump run: so if the other suggested bypass option (bridge switch and cut ECM clutch input) is adopted, the pump won't actually re-start until it sees a number of crank revolutions.

According to the owner's manual for my '03 TJ, to bypass the clutch interlock, simply pull the spare 20amp fuse from position 19 in the fuse panel behind the glove box and put it in position 20. That is it. You are done.

Remove the two wires from the switch and and install a paper clip into both wires this will tell the system that the stand is up. This will also tell you that if the unit runs that the switch itself is bad at that point take electrical tape and rap the wires and order a new switch.
